Joan Ametller

The Ametller family has been dedicated to the culture of wine in the Catalan region of the Penedès since the first half of the XIX century. The founder was Joan Ametller Fortuny, originally coming from Salomó, who settled Sant Martí Sarroca (in the northern part of the Penedès) in 1824. In 1832, he bought a small piece of land which over the years has turned into the present Ametller Property. His descendants developed the wine-growing business and started commercializing their wines in bulk through the traditional sales channels.

The Oenology of the new millennium has confirmed that the final quality of the product is very much predetermined by what happens in the initial phase of this wonderful process: the evolution of the grape in the vineyard.
The harvest of these grapes is made by hand as they grow on very steep land. Afterwards they are also hand selected in order to only choose the best grapes. The men and women of the Ametller Property that form part of seven consecutive generations taking care of its lands, know perfectly which land is most suitable for the cultivation of each one of the varieties, the exact time to carry out each task and the ideal moment to collect the grape.

Bodegas Joan Ametller has wines from D.O.C. Priorat and D.O. Cava
